Hi Daniel, Thanks for that! The new SILO seems to work fine with the 2.6.16 kernel I compiled myself.
However, I've just tried booting the Debian 2.6.15 kernel from Etch with the new SILO and that still doesn't work. It looks likely that Jurij is correct with his theory that initrd is the culprit.
