If you choose a 'standard system' during install, X.org is not going to be installed at all. Then you can play with it (apt-get install xorg) will install it, without ending up being locked out of the system due to failing X. > I want to install a 2.6 kernel because I want to take advantage of 2.6 > router/server features. Please try one the daily-built Debian installer images from http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer We now have 2.6.18 there, and the xorg currently in testing has a 'tgx' driver, which should be a match for your card, I believe. xorg.conf should be automatically generated. Please keep the list posted about your progress.
