i.e. I think it's being supplied with a plausible default. Can anybody

A more reasonable value would be: x * 4 for the number of bytes (4 bytes
per pixel) but that doesn't help.
8192 would also be another possible value because it's used else ware as
the stride but it doesn't help either.
One of these values is probably correct but there are still other
problems which prevent it from working.
