The laptop that is attached to it is not on that often. Most of the time
when the Sun boxes crashes the laptop is off.
If your machine is like older ones: presumably you don't have an
attached keyboard, so it's treating the serial port as the console. When
it sees a break it treats it as the same as a Stop-A from the Sun
keyboard, traditionally a pullup resistor from rxdata to pin 25 was used
to prevent that.
