Ok, more information: Downgrading libxml2 from 2.9.3+dfsg1-1 to 2.9.2+zdfsg1-4 fixes the issue. However, this isn't a bug in libxml2 but is just triggered by the new libxml2 version because it introduced support for lzma which is actually what triggers the glibc bug. Currently working on a workaround which will either involve a patched version of liblzma (with the compatibility hack disabled) or a patched version of libxml2 for sparc64, uploaded to 'unreleased'.
