I just hit the same problem with the version of openssh that ships with Fedora 21.
If you are still having this issue, I was able to work around it by setting an exclude in the ProxyCommand Host wildcard definition. Try: Host *.* !a !172.18.1.1 -- - - - Dustin Minnich
