This is what I did to install Woody using the reiserfs boot-floppies and the broken
libpcap0 dependency. Details may not be exact, nor may they be needed; I didn't try a
clean install this morning.
I had already gotten to the point where debootstrap tried and failed to install the
base system because the PPP packages wanted a non-existant libpcap0. Here are the
steps I took:
(Switch to VC 2)
host# chroot /target umount /proc
host# rm /target/etc/localtime #I'm not sure if this is necessary,
#but it complained about this file
host# cd /target/var/cache/apt/archives
host# wget
http://http.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libp/libpcap/libpcap0_0.6.2-2_i386.deb
edit /target/usr/lib/debootstrap/scripts/woody (I don't remember if you need the
leading /target) to include libpcap0 in the required= section. I removed the ppp and
pppoe packages, because I wasn't going to use them.
switch back to VC 1 and select "Install the base system" again. It will complain that
you already have stuff installed, but go ahead anyway. The system should proceed
normally from there.
Enjoy,
