At some point over the last couple weeks, a new problem has cropped up. I don't know which upgrade or when exactly, because I didn't really notice the problem until recently.
I log in with gdm, and then use Guile. My shell windows have LANG=english set for some reason. (This does not happen for non-X logins or remote logins.) This wreaks havoc, because there is no locale named "english" defined in /etc/locales AFAICT.
