Is this a problem with my GRUB..?
Here is the /boot/grub/menu.lst

default 0
timeout 5
color cyan/blue white/blue

# this is the new settings that tell about my new kernel

title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.7-morpheus
root (hd0,4)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.7-morpheus root=/dev/hda1 ro
savedefault
boot

I noticed that there's no "initrd" entry in my new (grub)entry. Tried to creat initrd image using,

        #mkinitrd -o /boot/initrd.img-2.6.7 2.6.7
cpio: /etc/modprobe.conf: No such file or directory
cpio: /lib/modules/modprobe.conf: No such file or directory

So I created some symbolic links,

#ln -s /etc/modprobe.d/ /etc/modprobe.conf
#ln -s /lib/modules/2.6.7/modules.alias /lib/modules/modprobe.conf

Then did,
#mkinitrd -o /boot/initrd.img-2.6.7 2.6.7

It worked without any problem. Then I edit my /boot/grub/menu.lst
accordingly..,

title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.7-morpheus (recovery mode)
root (hd0,4)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.7-morpheus root=/dev/hda1 ro single
inird /initrd.img-2.6.7
savedefault
boot

That's all, it worked!

Can some one explain this? Was it my problem or a Debian problem?.

when you want to make-dpkg a kernel with initrd feature, you have to add the long option `--initrd'. Afterward, every should be automized correctly.

Thanks,
Jerome
