hi list!
i am looking after an opengroupware server on sarge. (via ssh) i run raid1 on hdb2 hdd2, mounting md0 on /var
runs fine until apt-get upgrade last saturday. i didnt upgrade for about 2 months and i wanted the security-patches (postgresql/cyrus/...) i was in a hurry (bad move, i know) and was not expecting any trouble (since deb-updates never caused any!)
i guess i mistyped the config-file option for postgresql and so i got a new pg_hba.conf. thus the users couldn't login this morning to opengroupware. their admin-user inhouse just rebooted! (2nd bad move!)
after reboot he got into runlevel 1, because the raid could not be found. (alleged fsck problems, but we couldnt detect any, since it was caused by the raid) and the eth0 card wasn't found either.
reason: the modprobe.d files didn't contain the alias for eth0, (and ide_cd ...) couldnt be loaded either! after manually writing a modprobe.conf (shouldnt need or do it, but i had to get the thing on the net!) i could start networking and so it is now!
questions: did anyone have similar problems?
how/why can i adjust modprobe.d?
what/where is the new programm replacing update-modules?
how can i assure, that the modprobe.conf doesnt get changed again?
and it all boils down to: where did i make the dumbass move in this?
thanx a lot
