gtk 1.2 fontsize with LANG=de_DE@euro

I experienced very small fonts with gtk 1.2 programs, tested with GNOME.
Some experiments have shown that the font size depend on the LANG
environment variable, setting it to de_DE works but the installed
value [EMAIL PROTECTED] produces unreadable output.

I don't know if the LANG variable is set wrong or gtk has a problem.

Can anybody reproduce the problem?
