SUMMARY:

Minimal slink install from 2.1.4 disks.
Kind of painless install but all details are not worked out.

ERRORS in CONFIGURE DEVICE DRIVERS:
        0: no such user
        Symbol for parameter io not found (3C509)
ERROR in bootup
        lspci not found
ERRORS in BASIC preselection
        development packages in BASIC: libncurses4-dev, g++, libstdc++-dev
? in BASIC preselection
        dpkg-mountab installed but removed by BASIC, sounds strange
ERRORS in INSTALL
        dselect unmounts partition with installation files before
         dpkg -iGREOB /..../non-US (i.e. after it has finished with non-free)

TESTING TARGET:
        task: minimal install of slink with disks-2.1.4

PREPARATION:

        download of slink and hamm from ftp.lh.umu.se 1998-12-31 ~1200 MET
        to /dev/sda10:/debian/{hamm,slink}
        moved non-US to the above hamm,slink directories for ease of use
         when doing the access part in dselect
        downloaded 2.1.4: resc144, drv144 and base2_1.tgz.2.1.4-i386

        ln -s base2_1.tgz.2.1.4-i386 base2_1.tgz        so install finds it
        dd if={resc,drv} of=/dev/fd0 obs=18k            make floppies

        reboot

ERROR -- Symbol for parameter io not found / Inst. failed
        (no such problems with insmod 3c509 from a running hamm+2.0.36,
         or after reboot and depmod -a)
        lp or 3c509: remove
ERROR -- 0: no such user
        3c59x: -- OK (but hw-report would be apreciated)
Conf. dev. drivers: -- OK
Making boot floppy -- OK
(Not using lilo at this stage, because of disk setup and 
the spartan options offered by liloconfig)
Reboot
ERROR lspci not found

new user - test

remove pcmcia - Y
choosed BASIC
access - hardisk (/dev/sda10:/debian/slink)
(i put slink non-US in /dev/sda10:/debian/slink/non-US for my convenience)
update -- OK
select:
        dpkg-mountab installed but removed by BASIC, sounds strange
        leaving select => dependancy/conflict
ERROR development packages in BASIC
                libncurses4-dev depends on c-compiler
                g++ dep. on binutils
                libstdc++-dev dep. on libc6-dev
        removed them -- OK
install:
        (exim-config: top 3 lines scrolled over)
        after dpkg -iGROEB /..../non-US
ERROR -- files not found because disk is unmounted after non-free
quit.
login root
BASIC system running - install test finished.
