I just upgraded my potato box to woody. Here is a relevant line from my /etc/hosts:
192.168.1.1 doma.mattyt.net doma Something I used to be able to do no longer works, namely: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ssh -l mattyt doma ssh: doma.mattyt.net: Name or service not known ...but: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ssh -l mattyt 192.168.1.1 [EMAIL PROTECTED]'s password: Last login: Thu Feb 8 22:00:40 2001 from igra.mattyt.net on pts/0 Linux doma 2.2.17 #1 Mon Jul 24 00:40:07 PDT 2000 i586 unknown Most of the programs included with the Debian GNU/Linux system are freely redistributable; the exact distribution terms for each program are described in the individual files in /usr/doc/*/copyright Debian GNU/Linux comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY, to the extent permitted by applicable law. You have mail. $ Any idea why doma no longer works but 192.168.1.1 does? Oh, also: $ ping doma PING doma.mattyt.net (192.168.1.1): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=0.4 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=0.6 ms --- doma.mattyt.net ping statistics --- 2 packets transmitted, 2 packets received, 0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max = 0.4/0.5/0.6 ms Odd that doma is recognized for ping but not for ssh. TIA for any help :) ciao...............................
