I can't find the reference right now, BUT in the past couple of days I have seen a message stating that this problem has been "fixed" and is being built now. I think I saw it on the "developer" lists somewhere.... Ahh...here it is. See message thread entitled "Re: URGENT! Install Base System via network: settings wrong" in the Developers/Debian-boot Mailing list. The last message seems to indicate a "fix" of erasing the malformed release file will be included in the 3.0.19 series of boot-floppies. I see where one person has already given feedback on a fresh "testing" install using these new boot-floppies, so I guess they are available to "test". The original 'fix" was to manually remove the "malfored" Release File and let it get a new one. The new "fix" will automatically erase the malformed one and will always attempt to d/l a "fresh" one, if I am not mistaken. Using "testing" for public demos of Debian CAN be risky... You have to off-set the advantage of having a fairly "modern" and sleek desktop install to show off to new users with the advantages of the "stable" but "ancient" Potato version. I imagine the 4 with the "Malformed Release File" problem were not too impressed, but what about the other 28? Seems like you had a pretty good percentage of success. That beats my experience installing the "X.0" versions of other distros (Dead Rat, Manduck, etc) <g>. Cheers, -Don Spoon-
