O libdevmapper é meio essencial ao LVM (se não estou redondamente
enganado)...
Veja se o seu Kernel está compilado para suporte a LVM2...
Se estiver, verifique se está como compilado no kernel ou como módulo...
Se estiver como módulo, verifique se está carregado:
# lsmod
Se não estiver carregado, tente um:
# modprobe dm-mode
E tente recompilar.
Agora uma dúvida: por que você está querendo compilar o LVM? Não há uma
versão pré-compilada nos repositórios?
