Se tu criar o arquivo xorg.conf ele ainda vai funcionar.
Entretanto, se o problema for teclado utilize o comando setxkbmap (ou altere o arquivo /etc/default/keyboard).
Se o problema for vídeo, utilize o comando xrandr (ou instale o ARandR).
