DONATION LIST COMMUNITY EVENTS Beyond the Binary with Alex Iantaffi and hosted by emem obot Alex Iantaffi, co-author of Life Isn’t Binary: On Being Both, Beyond, & In-Between, writer, activist emem obot, Director of Programs of BSA, singer/songwriter, rapper, artist, and organizer This is an event you don’t want to miss! Thank you to the Chicago Humanities Festival for this event! It’s importance is huge. “Our binary view of the world is often established when we are very young, frequently conveyed through a series of oppositions: yes or no, up or down, good or bad. As we grow older, though, we come to understand that life is less a matter of yes/no and more about yes...and. Today, the term “non-binary” is usually used to discuss gender, but Dr. Alex Iantaffi, in Life Isn’t Binary, explores how non-binary thinking can lead not only to greater understanding of our own gender identity but also of sexuality, bodies, relationships, emotions, and thought. Joining Iantaffi in conversation is emem obot, an organizer with the Brave Space Alliance, the only Black- and trans-led LGBTQ center in Chicago.” Tickets are currently sold out, but we have some for free for anyone queer and trans interested in going! SIGN UP Are you interested in donating to Brave Space Alliance? We are a Black-led, trans-led organization working on a grassroots level on the South and West Side of Chicago to provide queer and trans community in these areas a chance and a voice for the future of themselves and their community. Brave Space Alliance was created to fill a gap in the organizing of and services to trans and gender-nonconforming people. Currently, very few LGBTQ social services or advocacy networks exist on the South and West Sides of Chicago. Furthermore, the few trans-specific resources in the city are located in majority-white neighborhoods on the North Side, which are inaccessible geographically, and also regularly result in the hyper-policing of trans people of color who attempt to access them. Your generous donation to Brave Space Alliance will go towards funding one of our transformative community programs and providing free resources.
