No Debian todos os servidores SMTP rodam como daemon, ter um servidor
SMTP gerenciado pelo inetd é uma péssima idéia, em qualquer Unix.
instale o servidor SMTP de sua preferência, (eu gosto do sendmail, o
pessoal parece gostar do postfix) configure e está rodando.
