Pero (hay un "pero") me parece que en Ubuntu tampoco usan el archivo xorg.conf, así que me temo que seguramente el problema que tengas en Debian te venga debido a las versiones de los paquetes, que son distintas de las de Ubuntu o bien a los archivos de configuración. Lo que sí puedes hacer es intentar solucionar esos problemas de manera independiente.
