Probablemente porque te falte algo. Accedo con un terminal de usuario normal en Debian > Squeeze. ¿Qué puedo hacer? Pues añadir al ~/.bash_profile lo siguiente PATH=$PATH:/sbin export PATH y después salir de tu sesión y volver a entrar.
