Este si es el sitio para preguntar. Hace pocos dias tuve el mismo problema y se me informo n la lista que era un bug-y2k. Asi pues, lo solucione cambiando la fecha de mi PC (sta aislada cuando no conecto a internet, soy su unico usuario) antes de 1 enero del 2000, lo instale nuevamente (todo el tetex-bin, tetes-base, etc) y lo configure. El creo el archivo <latex>.fmt y <tex>.fmt y listo, regrese y le cambie la fecha nuevamente. Se me informo que lo que funciona mal es lo relacionado con el escript de instalacion de tetex en debian y la ultima version de este paquete ya tiene la correccion (si quieres lo puedes descargar, yo esperare hasta potato stable).
