De la pagina man del 'smbmnt':
smbmnt is a helper application used by the smbmount program to do the
actual mounting of SMB shares. smbmnt can be installed setuid root if you
want normal users to be able to mount their SMB shares.
A mi en debian me lo ha montado setuid por defecto:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/downloads$ l `which smbmnt`
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 438k May 24 05:34 /usr/bin/smbmnt*
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/downloads$
Viene incluido en el paquete: smbfs
