Not directly. Peter, what version of Perl5 are you running (i.e. which revision number) (check with 'dpkg -l perl')? If it is lower than perl5.001-6, please upgrade. If it is perl5.001-6, please send me a minimal script that shows the problem. I've released the latest Debian perl5 packages, but I am not a perl wizard (I took on temporary maintenance when the previous maintainer left the project).
