Rich, as you know, I also have felt the same way also. However, with release 0.93R6, and newer versions of dpkg/dselect, I have gotten more comfortable with dselect. Remember my desire for an automatic update program to automatically upgrade a system from an NFS mounted archive? Essentially, deselect satisfies that desire with just enough interactive data passing back and forth. Once I figured out that I only needed to use the "+" and "_" keys (note not "-" key), and that dselect will "remember" the current installation status from the last execution of dselect, then I became comfortable. I do agree, however, that the interface needs work, but I also don't have any recommendations at this point. Perhaps a "debian conference" or "net brainstorm" from users would bring out some ideas. -- /------------------------------------------------------------------\ | James D.
