Gerd,
The terminfo or termcap description for "linux" on your remote system is
probably incorrect, or is probably correct for the Linux 1.1 you were using
with Slackware. Try using "ansi" instead of "linux" on that system.
Back on the Debian system, the "reset" command will probably clear the
condition when the screen locks up this way.
