I've send J. H. M. Dassen a copy of dpkg-deb that I compiled from the 1.0.17 source -- I have not heard back about whether or not it is useful. All I had to do for compiling was add "#include <errno.h>" into one of the files, but perhaps newer versions have more linux-specific features. Jim
