Hello, I feel so proud. I'm telnetting from my system that I FINALLY got network stuff working on. (enough self-admiration)
To get it to boot, however, I have to boot with the installation boot disk, then type 'linux root=/dev/hdb2 ether=10,0x300,eth0'. This is because it HANGS when I try to use the boot diskette that the installation software makes. The problem is solved by the 'ether=10,0x300,eth0' but when booting with the installation floppy (vs. the boot floppy made in the installation process -- I think it's item 8 in the install menu), the system looks for the root on the floppy drive, thus 'root=/dev/hdb2'. I don't want to run LILO, but to be able to boot from the boot disk (without having to type commands at the prompt every time). Is there a way to modify the boot disk made in the installation process to look for my ethernet card correctly? I can't seem to mount the boot disk (I can mount the installation one, however w/ 'mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 floppy'). Do both of these boot disks use SYSLINUX to boot? Should I just make a disk using SYSLINUX, that automatically sets the symbols above? How do I solve this dilemma? Thank you all for your patience in reading my verbiage... I'm sure I could have been more concise. Steve DeNeefe [EMAIL PROTECTED]
