The "man" program supports compressed man page source. If we can verify
that _all_ of the manual viewers we use ("xman", etc.) can cope with
compressed man page source, we can start installing them.
The cat files are removed because they are a short-term cache of formatted
man pages and can always be re-created from the man page source.
