Hi Jake. What is your HD and CDROM hardware configuration? Usually, your first IDE HD is /dev/hda1, etc. Anyway, I needed to access an IDE (ATAPI) CDROM on a 486 PC recently, and I had to get a kernel with IDE CDROM support built in. The CDROM was on a Soundblaster card, and was recognized as /dev/hdd. To find it, I had to use the bootline parameter hdd=cdrom. (I actually first tried hdc=cdrom, and the kernel found the cdrom under hdd). If you give the details of your hardware, someone will be able to help you. I'm going out of town for a few days, so I probably won't be online again 'til Sunday. Good Luck. Syrus. P.S. I used loadlin to boot the kernel image from a DOS partition. This makes it easy to put in bootline parameters. I actually built the kernel I used on another PC. ---------------------------------------------------------- Syrus Nemat-Nasser <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> UCSD Physics Dept.
