There was a widespread bug in unix NFS implementations which accepted files with a / in it. Unfortunately the only 2 Chars which never can appear in Unix Filenames are / and "\0". There was now way to delete those files. (In fact, there is no way to generate them eighter, but since the NFS server runs in kernel mode it bypassed the name->inode mapping. This is fixed a long time.
