This is an update to my earlier problems with large linear md volumes and DLT backup systems.
After some experimenting I discovered that I could successfully e2fsck the large volume if the system was fully booted. I simply e2fsck and mount the large volume in rc.local (temporarily) and they load after boot. Unfortunatly this precludes me from including the volume in fstab unless I implicitly specify which volumes to mount at startup. Anyway... problem solved for the moment.
