Uh, am I missing something here? Isn't there a file (or NIS map) on the system called "aliases"? How about adding a line in the aliases file/map that redirects mail to the dummy users to whatever you want (e.g. vacation, bash script, perl script, whatever...)? I'm no expert, but I think something like the following:
info: dummy_user oi: dummy_user fill_in_the_blank: dummy_user dummy_user: |/usr/local/bin/reply.pl or dummy_user: |/usr/bin/vacation postmaster should do it. Are we overlooking the obvious, or am I not understanding the question?
