Still, the second paragraph in my initial response (which you happily snipped away) explains what I think should be done about this: the DPL should not be telling people what to do; rather, the people involved (porters, release managers, and ftpmasters) should discuss together what the current state is; they should outline the work required to get from the current state of affairs to the desired state; and *they*, not the DPL, should come up with a plan to fix this. If you're asking *me* for an estimate, then I'd say a few months after the release of etch does not sound unreasonable. Sure, I can look that up myself, but if I need to spend ten minutes for just *finding* context information (let alone *reading* it) for every question on this mailinglist, then I'll never be able to answer all of them. I had to google around and ask around for your statement that "ftpmasters were charging an amount of money to include amd64", too. Not everyone remembers these things, especially not if they don't consider them to be a big deal, as was the case for me. If you would have just added a link to the relevant pages and/or Message-ID's, I could much easier have answered your question.
