That's the fundamental crux of the disagreement I think: A GR will _not_ automagically generate upstream attention for non-systemd support. Point. If your "good" situation is a situation where non-systemd setups continue to work, what's needed to ensure it stays so is "people putting up the work everywhere needed", _not_ a GR (which is "people have stated a collective opinion"). Post-Jessie, trying to coerce sysvinit maintenance burden on maintainers is directly against §2.1.1 of our constitution; trying to coerce sysvinit maintenance burden on upstreams will simply not happen, no matter how many GRs we might pass in that hope.
