Mkinitrd creates filesystem images for use as initial ramdisk (initrd) images. These ramdisk images are often used to preload the block device modules (SCSI or RAID) needed to access the root filesystem.
My plan is to make few extensions to make mkinitrd more Debian compatible, create a frozen extension interface so the program can be extended by others, implement some feature requested by Debian users that are ignored by the current initrd-tools maintainer. Eg. intelligent resolving of required modules to make reasonably sized initrd images than can fit on one floppy disk with the kernel. Important goal is also closer cooperation with upstream authors (Sistina/LVM, IBM/EVMS projects).
