In the past couple of weeks I did some work upstream and in Fedora to be able to rebuild the dist/ bundle during the Debian (and soon Fedora) package build. This comes at the price of shipping an extra and rather sizable (10 MB) .orig-node.tar.xz, plus a lot of new debian/copyright entries for these (they are auto-generated).
This should now meet the Debian Policy. It's sitting in NEW again (32-1). Martin
