Celestia is a free 3D astronomy program. Based on the Hipparcos
Catalogue, it allows users to display objects ranging in scale from
artificial satellites to entire galaxies in three dimensions using
OpenGL. Unlike most planetarium software, the user is free to travel
 about the Universe.

Other information:
celestia was long ago in debian (https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/celestia)
but was pushed-out in 2016. It was also re-considered for packaging, via
bug report #988111, but did not went through.
The upstream now seems to revive. It is a good opportunity to put
celestia back in debian.

The CelestiaContent also need to be packages as celestia-data
(https://github.com/CelestiaProject/CelestiaContent).
Both upstream git are suited for packaging, and can already be used produce
binary debian packages.

Celestia is not to be confused with openuniverse (in debian), which lacks
a GUI and is much less powerful.

I plan to do my best to maintain this package, with help from @olebole in
the Debian Astro team.
