Absolutely. I think team packaging is the best approach. I've got local packages that I'm already using, but they need some cleaning up. How far have you gotten? I would suggest a first step is to set up a shared repository somewhere. I usually use SVN on alioth for team packaging but I just started learning git. I'm willing to use either one.
