At some point, but not for this issue. BLACS and ScaLAPACK (and MUMPS) would need to be rebuilt for the new MPICH2 anyway. This is probably a topic for debian-science, which discussed MPI and decided to go with a mpi-defaults meta-package, so packages build against OpenMPI on the arches where it's available and LAM otherwise. Muammar, I have yet to hear from you regarding 491028 and 491105. Do you have any feedback? This is a major change, but do you mind if I NMU to make it?
