The full text of this paper is online here: http://www.alnresearch.org/Data_Files/articles/full_text/blum.htm I read this a while ago, and found that a lot of it resonated with me. In particular, I realised that I often use "tag words" in my emails. Since then, I've been much more aware of others' usage of "tag words" and also tried to cut down on my own. However, a couple of months ago, I read these articles on Language Log, http://itre.cis.upenn.edu/%7Emyl/languagelog/archives/000873.html and http://itre.cis.upenn.edu/~myl/languagelog/archives/002159.html, and have been reconsidering my views on "tag words".
