Note the header template that does:

{: [[s/—/--/g]] [[s/–/-/g]] [[s/&[lr]dquo;/"/g]] [[s/‘/`/g]] 
[[s/’/'/g]]

This can be used with the PL slice to replace a custom tag with the
high-Unicode entity.
