Could we provide a binary package which includes Contents.gz in /usr/share/.../? I mentioned this WRT another report; versioning is a small problem (some versions provide a file but others do not).
In most cases, I do not think that is an issue. I find myself searching (with apt-file, which should depend on this hypothetical new pacakge) for files to satisfy build-dependencies of packages which are not included in Debian. Justin
