Hi: I have noticed that other people are having this same problem now with Xauthority suddenly not allowing certain appz -- even GNOME, FI, to start. X starts fine with non-MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1.
The ~/.Xauthority file seems to be working fine. xauth seems to be working fine.
