Nothing I can see except that we are in a freeze. It is probably worth making the change anyway, but I will leave that to the emacs users. Re interaction with metaSendsEscape: of course it would not confuse new users, but would existing configurations might start to misbehave? I readily admit I do not understand the details. Bug#574396 does not look resolved and I am too ignorant to figure out the current state of things. Thanks again for reporting this --- I had been wondering why Meta+key did not work in emacs.
