When using 2 cores and 4 GiB RAM: kernel 2.6.35 had no problems;
under kernel 2.6.37, the xserver restarted.With using 4 cores and 8 GiB RAM, all the above kernels allowed iceweasel to display the large JPEG and I was unable to trigger any errors by moving the iceweasel window around.
