The Compiz package was recently removed from Debian (see #719870). It seems it wasn't receiving the tender loving it truly deserved from its official maintainers, the Debian X Strike Force.
As an upstream maintainer I'd like to see this software continue to be distributed in Debian. To that end, I'm proposing to set up a team at Alioth to take over packaging maintenance.
