I've been watching this bug as I've got similar hardware (System 76 Kudu / Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz ) and similar symptopms.
I'm on Fedora 20, but I can work around the problem by explicitly enabling SNA in xorg. In my case adding the following works around the issue: Section "Device" Identifier "Intel Graphics" Driver "intel" Option "AccelMethod" "sna" EndSection Cheers! -A.
