xutils-dev requires cpp-4.7, which is not available for arm64. I built it with cpp-4.8 and it builds and works fine. Reading the original bugrep, I couldn't see the reported problem of lots of whitespace, but couldn't be quite sure where I was supposed to be looking.
So, I suspect this 4.7 dep is no longer needed, but can't be sure. Just a datapoint. Hope it helps.
