Hi, I have hit this issue again. This time it was after shortly after a resume from suspend. I could still login via ssh. Restarting the X server (/etc/init.d/kdm restart) did not change anything.
Thus I think it is rather a kernel/driver related issue than an X server related issue. Since the system does not hang after the crash, I could try to get some more debug data, when I have next time physical access to the system.
