I can confirm that. I'm using KDE and not only is the functionality
described above gone, in KDEs Touchpad Dialogs, all relevant settings
are greyed out. I also uninstalled the package and
xserver-xorg-input-all aswell. Touchpad response immediately came back
to normal. I would also recommend keeping the synaptics driver the default.
